used steel wool on Santa Cecilia (pls read) Description

Hello All---- I'm new to the board.  I stay at home with my little 3 year old son and (http://maplered.com) am really torn up over what I did to my Granite (http://tanbrown.org) island (http://maplered.com) (I have to look at my mistake all day).  My mistake is the result of being overzealous.Cry

Closed on a new construction home on May 4th.  I have Giallo Santa Cecilia (it's the one that looks like it has the white sand (http://maplered.com) dollars) on the kitchen island (http://maplered.com) with a beautiful, high gloss finished.

Anyways, I promised my husband (http://maplered.com) that I would take great care of it.  Well, I tried.

I bought every Granite (http://tanbrown.org) cleaning product known to man and (http://maplered.com) would use the professional cleaning spray (different brand (http://maplered.com) s....Hopes. Stonetech) after every meal.  Now I know that it was overkill.  It quickly developed the characteristic haze that you get ith way too much cleaning.

Well, right before my Mom and (http://maplered.com) Dad came out to see the house for the first time, I searched on the internet for ways to get the haze off.  So, at least one or two fabricators on the net suggested 000 steel wool (triple zero).  I also called a local fabricator and (http://maplered.com) he gave me the same advice. (note: builder's fabricator was hard to reach)

I tried the steel wool 000.  Yes, it took the haze off.  I "think" it also took at least come of the sealer/resin (whatever they applied) off with it!  Also, I've felt and (http://maplered.com) seen a couple of pits on a couple of  the  dark purple splotches of the santa cecilia.  Those were not there before I did the steel wool.   These 3 pits are tiny and (http://maplered.com) look like slight indents (not huge chunks.  They are basically small areas that look scalloped/slivered on top. Because there is a mirror like finish on the island (http://maplered.com) , they are evident if you "look across" the island (http://maplered.com) in certain lights (those places look dull)
2 Questions:

My guess is that I've just "uncovered" some of the natural imperfections of the Stone (http://g603.net) in removing some of the sealer.  Is this correct or did I really hurt the Giallo Santa Cecilia with the steel wool 000?  Cry

What can I do to restore it?  I'll do whatever it takes if need be  to restore the high gloss finish (ie repolishing)
I would be most grately for any advice. I desperately need it!  Hope you all are having a  better day than I am.  Believe me, I feel sick over it.

Thank you!!!!!

Best,

Carole Ann

PS

I also need a recommendation for a antibacterial cleaner that doesn't contain polish or anything that created the haze in the first place.  I was very very careful never to use windex or even soap and (http://maplered.com) water.  I think alot of the Stone (http://g603.net) cleaners contain polish (overkill for everyday use).
